The Difference Between Conventional Lithium-ion Batteries and Power Lithium-ion Batteries

2022-03-10

1. Different power

The biggest difference between power battery and ordinary battery is the high discharge power and high energy. Its discharge power is higher than that of ordinary batteries, which is a good solution to the problem of energy supply for cars.

2. Difference in appearance

Power lithium battery: The electrode sheet of the battery is wide and thick, and the diaphragm is also thick, which can withstand a discharge rate of 12C-50C, but the capacity is smaller. Ordinary battery: known as capacity battery, the diaphragm is generally smaller can only withstand a maximum discharge of 2.5C.

3. Voltage difference

The operating voltage of power lithium batteries is lower than that of ordinary lithium batteries. The maximum charging voltage of ordinary lithium batteries is 4.2V, while the maximum charging voltage of power lithium batteries is about 3.65V. The nominal voltage of ordinary lithium battery is 3.7V, while the nominal voltage of power lithium battery is 3.2V.

4. Different nature

Power lithium battery is a battery that provides power for transportation tools, while ordinary lithium battery is a primary battery with lithium metal or lithium alloy as anode material and non-aqueous electrolyte solution, which is different from rechargeable lithium-ion battery and lithium-ion polymer battery.

The main types of power batteries on the market now are 18650, polymer and lithium iron phosphate. Among them, lithium polymer batteries are the most modest choice for consumers, followed by 18650 batteries. Compared with the first two types of batteries, lithium iron phosphate battery technology is relatively not particularly mature, and the large size and high price has also hindered its development.
