The Meaning of Letters and Numbers on Lithium Batteries

2022-03-10

Rectangular battery model name: 6 digits indicate the thickness, width and height of the battery in millimeters respectively. When any of the three dimensions is greater than or equal to 100mm, a crossbar must be added between the dimensions. If any of the three dimensions is less than 1 mm, the letter "t" is added in front of the dimension, which is measured in tenths of a millimeter.

ICP103450 represents a square secondary lithium-ion battery with a cathode material of diamond, thickness of about 10mm, width of about 34mm and height of about 50mm.

ICPO8/34/150 stands for square secondary lithium-ion battery, the cathode material is drill, thickness is about 8mm, width is about 34mm, height is about 150mm.

ICPt73448 represents square secondary lithium-ion battery, cathode material drill, thickness of about 0.7mm, width of about 34mm, height of about 48mm.

The model name of the cylindrical lithium battery consists of three letters and five numbers. IEC61960 for cylindrical and square batteries are as follows.

Cylindrical lithium battery, 3 letters plus 5 numbers. Three letters, I for built-in lithium ion, L for lithium metal or lithium alloy electrode. The second letter represents the positive electrode material, C for drill, N for nickel, M for manganese, and V for vanadium. The third letter is R for cylindrical.
5 digits, the first 2 digits indicate the diameter and the last 3 digits indicate the height in mm.

For example, ICR18650 is a universal 18650 cylindrical battery with a diameter of 18mm and a height of 65mm, and 0 means round.

C is the discharge rate when the battery is discharged, the unit is mAh, simply the size of the unit time or discharge rate. For example, when the battery capacity is discharged at 1h to complete, it is called 1C discharge. When the battery is discharged at 5h to complete, it is called 0.2C discharge.
