What is the Difference Between Square Lithium Battery and Round Lithium Battery in Terms of Safety Protection?

2022-03-10

1. At present, the focus of lithium battery protection is mainly divided into internal and external parts: external protection refers to the prevention of threats caused by external forces such as impact and puncture; internal protection refers to the protection of threats caused by heat dissipation and decay.

2. There is no difference between these two types of batteries in vehicle safety protection. Not only square lithium batteries and round lithium batteries, soft pack batteries are also very common in vehicles, even if there are differences in form, but the overall protection is the same. I'm afraid the biggest difference is that soft pack batteries use aluminum-plastic composite film as the shell, while square and cylindrical batteries use metal materials as the shell, so the difference in materials will be taken into account when designing the protection system.

3. Square lithium battery protection scheme: when the battery temperature rises abnormally, it will show high resistance, which will hinder the charging and discharging current of the battery and ensure the safe use of the battery.

4. Cylindrical lithium battery protection scheme: PPTC is installed inside the cell for over-temperature and over-current protection. When the temperature of the cell is too high or the current is too high, the PPTC will turn into a high resistance state, thus blocking the charge and discharge current of the cell and preventing the battery from being ignited and exploded. Therefore, when using cylindrical lithium batteries, attention must be paid to temperature, voltage and current.

5. The protection idea of round lithium battery is: to ensure the safety of the inside and outside of the battery pack, including accidental collision and puncture; to ensure long battery life and battery aging, the temperature inside and outside the battery needs to be monitored.
